![]() ![]() In this book, it's all about the Data Earth (or DE), which is basically a corporate-controlled internet (boring old internet is gone) that has taken the place of reality (virtual reality that has stopped being virtual). ![]() The extraterrestrial visitor from the end of the first volume more or less disappears to the background - other characters reference her, but that part of the story doesn't advance much (which is especially curious because her appearance is used as a sort of cliffhanger at the end of the first book). The second part in this series, and the epic story kind of sags. Overall the books are much more cohesive than I gave them credit for.ģ.5 stars (which probably seems finicky, but that half star makes a difference to me!) it certainly is a prominent part of volume 1, and volume 2 only expands on it. I was wrong about the bit on Data Earth or D.E. Addendum after re-reading: In preparing myself to finally read parts 3 and 4 of this series, I re-read parts 1 and 2, and it has become even more apparent how much this series benefits from reading the volumes close together. ![]()
